There are some great vegan meetups and potlucks in Portland, OR. When the #VeganMofo prompt came up to meet new vegan friends,  I knew that I would go to the next Portland Fruit Lovers Meetup. September’s meetup was held at the Saturday Portland Farmer’s Market. This is one of the largest farmer’s markets in the Portland Metro Area and is held all year600_295745352.jpegI met up with Alan, Mike and Zoe and together we walked, talked and ate our way through the market. Some awesome finds were pineapple ground cherries, a type of fruit related to tomatillos, whose vines cover the ground with lantern shaped, husk-covered, citrusy, tropical bites. We scored some of the last strawberries of the season as well as tasted a new vegetable called celtuce, that is a hybrid of celery and lettuce, with the texture of not stringy celery, and a flavor like romaine.

We had some delicious, velvety,  raw vegan pie samples from Divine Pies and samples of kimchi from Choi’s Kimchi. My favorite flavor of the kimchi was the mild daikon radish. It was sweet, crunchy, and only a little acidic and salty.

Portland Fruit Lovers Meetup is hosting their next meetup at the apple tasting at the Portland Nursery, October 10th. If you live in the Portland Metro Area and want to meet some new vegan friends, I highly recommend checking out the group.
